The Tavares brothers were known as Chubby And The Turnpikes from the formation of the group in 1959 through the 1960's. They changed their name to the Tavares when the group signed with Capitol Records and finally hit the big time with their first national hit, Check It Out, which peaked at #6 on the Cash Box chart, week ending 10/27/73. They would go on to be consistent chartmakers from 1973 through until 1982.
