‘Golden’ was one of the first songs I wrote for this second record, so it makes sense that it’s one of the first ones I release. I have been singing this live at my shows for the past 2 years and the response has been amazing. This song helped to shape the album thematically and musically. It’s all about acknowledging the people in our lives that hold us together. Without these people in my life - making this album independently wouldn’t be possible. Musically - it brought me back to my folky soulful roots and helped me envisage the sound and energy for the record as a whole. The strings on this record are without doubt one of my proudest moments of my career, being involved in arranging them with violinist Corey Wickens and seeing them come to life so perfectly was a dream come true - I can’t wait for the world to hear them. We were able to bring to life the music that I imagined in my head - without needing a real orchestra or huge studio budget, I feel incredibly lucky and grateful that this was possible.
