No Robert Plamer didn't write it, I heard Harry Belafonte sing it long before him. This song's been covered by everyone from The Carpenters to The Grateful Dead. It's a much older tune than you think. Penned in 1936 by Norman Span, known as King Radio, he was a calypsonian active in the 1930s & 40s. With Little Ricky beating up the bongo's, I like the Riccardo's and the Mertzes cover too. The bongo playin' is impressive, Little Ricky was Kevin Thibodeaux who was Johnny Paul Jason on The Andy Griffith Show. Thibodeaux was also the drummer for Starbuck on their one hit "Moonlight Feels Right" https://youtu.be/8WYOn9snPso in 1975.
