Cat Stevens hatte eine Ahnung von der Tiefe des Textes, die ich nun neu aufgreifen möchte.
„Der Morgen ist angebrochen, als wäre es der allererste Morgen, die Amsel hat gesungen, als wäre sie der allererste Vogel.“
Es ist das Erleben eines Neubeginns, einer aktiven, erwartungsvollen Stimmung gegenüber den Möglichkeiten, die jeder neue Tag mit sich bringt. Um offen für das Neue zu sein, müssen wir Vergangenes, unbrauchbar gewordenes überwinden, ganz im Sinne von Goethe:

„Und so lang du das nicht hast,
Dieses: Stirb und werde!
Bist du nur ein trüber Gast
Auf der dunklen Erde.“
– Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, letzte Strophe des Gedichtes „Selige Sehnsucht“

Verfasst hat den Text die englischen Autorin Eleanor Farjeon (1881–1965), die die Inspiration dafür in der Atmosphäre des Dorfes Alfriston in East Sussex fand.
Cat Stevens veröffentlichte eine Version von „Morning Has Broken“ in seinem Album Teaser and the Firecat (1971).

Cat Stevens had an inkling of the depth of the text, which I would now like to revisit.
‘Morning has broken like the first morning, blackbird has spoken like the first bird.’
It is the experience of a new beginning, an active, expectant mood towards the possibilities that each new day brings. In order to be open to the new, we have to overcome the past, what has become useless, in the poem of Goethe:
" And so long as you haven’t experienced this: to die and so to grow,
you are only a troubled guest on the dark earth.."

The text was written by the English author Eleanor Farjeon (1881-1965), who drew inspiration for it in and its surrounding countryside in East Sussex.
Cat Stevens published a version of ‘Morning Has Broken’ on his album Teaser and the Firecat (1971).
