This week’s cover song: ‘Says Elliott’ by Sibylle Baier. This is my sixth cover of her music I have made. I was introduced to her by one of you so thank you so much for that! She only ever made one album (‘Colour Green’) and it was released decades later by her son. Recorded in the early 70s and released in 2006, it has now garnered a huge cult following for its unique melodies, minimalist production and ambiguous lyricism. This song references the poem ‘The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock’ by T. S. Elliot (there is a misspelling of his name in the title of the song – unless it was purposeful). The poem is about a man who resigns himself to misery and loneliness with one line being ‘I grow old […] I shall wear the bottom of my trousers rolled’. I read the poem for this video and I liked it; you should check it out.
